One of the two barangays created out of Guiwan District of the poblacion, Guiwan I is the first poblacion barangay that one will set foot on when we travel to Palompon thru the Villaba – Palompon concrete national highway or thru the Matag-ob – Palompon national highway. It is the only poblacion barangay that has a two-storey concrete barangay hall and one of the best barangay drainage system. The second most thickly populated poblacion barangay and the seventh in the municipality, its population is recorded at 1,648 in 327 households according to the latest national census.
In the Indigay sa Barangay Program of the municipality, it got 3rd place in category A. It was awarded as having the Best Banting during the town’s annual fiesta celebration. Every fiesta and Christmas season, Guiwan I has always an attractive lighting system.
